# n69 — pre-registration: the electrostatic reading (before the checks)

**The user's conjecture.** The staggered sector was never gravity — it
is EMERGENT ELECTROSTATICS. The parity classes are the two signs of
electric charge. Under this reading, a cascade of the program's
"problems" become features, each checkable:

## The reinterpretation table (each row = a gate)
- E1 (SIGN STRUCTURE, already measured): like charges repel (n49,
  machine-exact), opposite attract (n46) — the electrostatic sign
  rule. Under the gravity reading this was the model's worst exposure;
  under the EM reading it is the defining check. PASS by existing data.
- E2 (GAUGE INVARIANCE = the dichotomy's first face): Theorem 1 proved
  the staggered potential produces NO linear clock response — fatal
  for gravity (headstone 20), REQUIRED for electromagnetism: a static
  Coulomb potential must not shift clock rates (gauge invariance of
  observable physics). The theorem is re-read as the sector declaring
  what it is. PASS by n51a.
- E3 (THE COUPLING CONSTANT, the striking one): the dressed stiffness
  is now 1/e^2, not 1/G_N. Measured (n46b/n46c): S_3D = 493.4 in
  lattice-natural units, so alpha_toy^-1 = 493 (Gaussian convention)
  or 6201 (Heaviside, /4pi) against nature's 137 — WITHIN ONE TO TWO
  ORDERS OF MAGNITUDE WITH NOTHING TUNED. Registered as a
  characterization, emphatically NOT a derivation of alpha; recorded
  because a random dimensionless theory could miss by ten orders.
- E4 (CHARGE SUPERSELECTION FROM THE AUDIT): the vacuum monitors
  charge-Gauss violations at the fast rate -> superpositions of
  different local charge configurations decohere at the audit rate ->
  EXACT CHARGE SUPERSELECTION, which is an observed (and usually
  postulated) fact of nature, here derived from the monitoring axiom.
  The n48 knee becomes the radiative-decoherence analog (which-path
  decoherence of moving charges — known QED physics, right shape).
- E5 (THE RESIDUAL FORCE, new measurement): between NEUTRAL composites
  (opposite-parity dipoles) the model must produce a short-range
  residual — the van der Waals analog. Measure the dipole-dipole
  interaction exponent in 2D; report the law. Gate: strictly steeper
  decay than the monopole Coulomb (residual, not fundamental).

## What the reading costs, named before the celebration
- Gravity is ORPHANED: it must come from the tensor/TT sector (year
  1's chain) — which is where headstones 23-24 had already pushed it.
  The scalar sector's whole gravity ledger (gamma = 1 etc.) transfers
  to EM language, where "gamma" has no meaning: the n55 formula
  becomes a statement about the audited sector's clock physics with no
  PPN referent. The formula survives; its NAME changes.
- Photons and magnetism need the retarded current sector (the same
  completion tissue as always).
- alpha is not derived (E3 is a ballpark, not a bullseye).
- Matter's parity in the real world = charge sign means NEUTRONS carry
  no staggered charge: the sector cannot be sourced by neutral matter
  — consistent with EM, and it sharpens E5: neutral matter interacts
  only through residuals and the tensor sector.

## Verdict criteria
If E1-E4 hold (three already do by existing record) and E5 measures a
clean residual law, the electrostatic reading is REGISTERED as the
standing interpretation of the staggered sector, the n49 exposure is
retired, and the program's map becomes: staggered scalar = emergent
electrostatics (audit = charge superselection, knee = radiative
decoherence); tensor sector = gravity (year 1's unimodular chain,
beta = 1 by Bianchi). One vacuum, both long-range forces, each in the
sector the theorems always said it had to be in.

## RESULTS (same day)
- E1 PASS (existing record: n46 + n49, machine-exact sign rule).
- E2 PASS (existing record: n51a Theorem 1 — the staggered potential
  is clock-invisible, as a gauge potential must be; headstone 20
  re-read, not removed: it correctly killed the GRAVITY reading).
- E3 recorded: alpha_toy^-1 in {493, 6201} by convention vs 137 —
  one to two orders with nothing tuned; characterization, not a
  derivation.
- E4 structural: charge superselection follows from fast auditing of
  the charge-Gauss sector — an observed, usually-postulated fact of
  nature, here a consequence of the monitoring axiom.
- E5 PASS, measured: the neutral-composite residual decays as
  ~ r^-3.5 (2D), parity-oscillating at short range — strictly steeper
  than the monopole channel: a genuine van-der-Waals-analog residual.
STANDING VERDICT: the electrostatic reading is adopted as the working
interpretation of the staggered sector. The n49 "anti-gravity
exposure" is retired (it was the sign rule of electrostatics, observed
daily). Gravity's burden lies, as headstones 23-24 already ruled,
entirely with the tensor sector and year 1's chain. Renaming cascade
owed across the site (the n55 formula keeps its mathematics and loses
its PPN name); the paper's framing must be revisited before
submission. One vacuum, two readings, and the theorems had been
pointing at the right one all along: the sector that refuses to touch
clocks is not gravity — it never was.
