# n240 — Out (c) fails, and the probe that measured "cone universality" is corrected: the deflection crisis stands, sharpened

**Date:** 2026-07-12 · **Executes n239's out (c)** — the sector-split hope. Result: adverse, with a rule-5 correction to n234 as the by-product.

## The computation and its three findings

1. **Out (c) is dead.** The mass's dressing decomposes as 99.1% watched-sector, **0.9% kernel-sector** — there is no large staggered component for light to respond to differently. The P3″-native resolution (light and windings reading different components of the dressing at a ~4 ratio) has nothing to read: the dressing is essentially all in one sector.
2. **The n234 correction (rule 5).** The per-shape response measurement returned ≈ 0 for *both* physical shapes (watched +0.008, kernel −0.018) against +0.998 for the uniform shift — because **a mass's dressing has zero spatial mean** (conservation: the drained budget is supplied from afar), and the global channel-speed probe measures the volume mean of the index shift. So n234's "cone universality" was true but weaker than claimed: both cones respond identically to a *uniform* k-shift — which is a units rescaling, trivially coefficient 1. The physical bending question (the *local* index in a zero-mean 1/r dressing) was never touched by that probe. n234 carries the correction.
3. **The LDA argument keeps the crisis alive as posed.** Every ingredient of the EM channel's stiffness is built from the local phonon vacuum, whose speed tracks local k at coefficient 1; in the local-density approximation the index therefore tracks the local dressing with the same coefficient the uniform probe measured — n239's chain (bending = 1/4 GR) stands at LDA level. What could still move it: gradient corrections at the EM wavelength scale (out a — now the *only* computational out) and the R = 1 re-audit (out b).

## Standing state of the crisis

- Out (c): **failed** (this note).
- Out (a): **the decisive remaining computation** — scatter a kernel-mode wave packet off a dressed region on a 2D glass; measure the actual deflection against the local-index prediction. Registered with a warning: if LDA holds (generic at long wavelength), (a) fails too.
- Out (b): the R re-audit — the last structural door; note that even its success trades one crisis for another (R = 4 breaks dark–baryon equivalence, killing entry 10/28's family instead).

**Plainly: the successor is one failed computation away from dying by Eddington, and the only alternative door on the map kills its dark-matter identification instead.** The record is current; nothing is softened.
