# n141 — the junction's second casualty: inertia alone is not enough
# (2026-07-11. The organ n140 demanded, built naively, fails — and the
#  failure is measured, localized, and instructive.)

## The computation (exact FS bands, n46b kernel, L = 48)
Give the coupling field dk inertia: mu_g d^2(dk)/dt^2 = -G dk. The
graviton candidates are then the bands of the Fubini-Study metric
G(q) on edge space. Measured:
  q -> 0:   both bands GAPPED; the soft band is the SHEAR
            polarization (-0.71, +0.70) — the TT-like one — flat at
            5.67e-03 (lattice units). soft/q^2 diverges: a mass, not
            a dispersion.
  q -> q*:  gapped too (4.94e-03, degenerate) — the graviton does
            NOT live at the photon's address either.
A substrate-scale graviton mass, excluded by ~dozens of orders
(m_g < 1.3e-23 eV). COUPLING INERTIA ALONE DOES NOT MAKE A GRAVITON.

## What this failure is (the classic disease, measured in-house)
A fixed lattice has no diffeomorphism invariance, so nothing gauges
away the cost of metric fluctuations: the FS energy prices every
dk direction, and priced modes are massive. This is the emergent-
gravity community's oldest wall (the spirit of Weinberg-Witten,
surviving evasions of its letter), and tonight it has our numbers
on it: 5.67e-03 shear gap, everywhere in the zone.

## The live door (and its precedent)
The framework has faced "the passive theory forbids it" before:
passive baths REPEL — attraction itself was impossible until the
PUMP (the active vacuum) provided it (the passivity theorem).
The same door stands here: an ACTIVE medium's collective modes are
not the eigenmodes of its passive energy — driven systems support
gapless branches the static energy forbids (NESS Goldstone-like
modes; gain-compensated gaps). CONJECTURE, now the junction's
sharpest open computation: THE PUMP THAT BUYS ATTRACTION ALSO BUYS
THE GRAVITON — the metric collective mode is gapless only in the
driven (audited, active) vacuum. Test: collective modes of the
coupling sector around the n87c/n114 NESS, active branch — does a
gapless shear branch appear? If yes: gravity is active through and
through, and one mechanism (the pump) carries attraction, Lambda,
AND the graviton's masslessness. If no: the junction lacks its key
and says so.

## The junction dossier, updated
Dissolved: aberration/instantaneity (n139-140, Carlip).
Casualty 1: the free composite pole (TT edge weight zero, n140).
Casualty 2: naive coupling inertia (gapped everywhere, tonight).
Live: the pump door — one defined computation, with a precedent
that the framework's own history makes plausible and its own
discipline will not let it assume.
