The fee, as originally priced.
Folio I's fourth postulate said: no withdrawal is free — every entanglement transaction pays an irreducible dephasing fee Γ ≥ (kBTL/ℏ)·Ṡent, billed at the diamond temperature, unshieldable, scaling as 1/L. Invoice Nº 001 priced the BMV experiment on those terms and made the fee the Ledger's distinguishing signature against perturbative quantum gravity. Folio IV then measured the temperature schedule (1/L to half a percent, constant 2/π) — the rate per nat remained the open factor. The honest course was to execute the invoice in a controlled universe and read the bill. We did. The bill came back different.
Three layers of fake fee, peeled in order.
The instrument: the BMV experiment executed exactly — two branch-source qubits coupled to a 3D massless lattice field (8,000 modes, compact boson), every branch a coherent field state, the 4×4 density matrix in closed form, no approximations anywhere. What looked like a fee died three deaths:
False decoherence — removed by the full cycle.
A dressed field cloud distinguishes the branches while the sources are on — but ramp the sources off slowly and the cloud returns its information. Protocol: ramp up, hold, ramp down, then read. Only what was radiated counts.
Complementarity — removed from the measure.
Single-qubit visibility falls as the entangling phase grows — by cos φ. That is not a fee; it is the entanglement itself, recoverable by joint measurement. Earlier runs (filed in Folio IV's audit) mistook it for decoherence: the apparent fee grew with hold time, tracking φent exactly. The honest fee is the field's branch-overlap factor R alone.
What remained.
Zero.

The Newtonian phase accumulates linearly and the entanglement grows — and the field keeps no record. The fee is exactly zero for the slow transaction, at every hold time, every separation, both box sizes. Only the sudden quench pays — its 0.00425 is bremsstrahlung, the radiated memory of a violent switch-on. The pattern admits one reading: the fee is the radiation, and nothing else. Static sources in horizon-free flat space radiate nothing; therefore slow flat-space transactions are free.
Postulate 4, revised in public.
| As priced (Folio I, June 2026) | As amended (this folio) | |
|---|---|---|
| The fee | Every transaction pays Γ ≥ (kBTL/ℏ)·Ṡent, unshieldably, everywhere | A transaction pays for what its record radiates beyond recall. Where nothing crosses a horizon, slow transactions are free. |
| Where it bills | Any causal region, scaling 1/L | Quenches (bremsstrahlung) and horizons — Rindler, black-hole, cosmological — where even static superpositions shed soft records (Danielson–Satishchandran–Wald). The diamond temperature TL (measured, Folio IV) prices those crossings. |
| BMV verdict table | Ledger row: entanglement with 1/L fee — distinct from perturbative QG | In flat space the Ledger now agrees with perturbative QG: entanglement, no irreducible fee. The discriminating territory moves to horizon-bounded settings. |
| Arrow of time | Running total of universal transaction fees | Running total of records lost through horizons — sharper, and aligned with the locked reserve: what crosses beyond recall joins the account nobody can draw on. |
Everywhere else, the universe extends interest-free credit.
Note what survives intact: the temperature schedule (T·L = 2/π, measured at sixty digits) — it prices horizon crossings; the locked reserve (Folio VI) — indeed strengthened, since irreversibly radiated records are precisely deposits into the undrainable account; the field equations (Folio II) and the withdrawal (Folio III) — untouched, they never depended on the fee's flat-space pricing. What falls: the claim that the BMV experiment carries an unshieldable 1/L dephasing floor. The house said from Folio I that this factor was "dimensional analysis wearing a suit." The suit is now off.
A theory that can lose an argument with its own toy is a theory.
Three gains, soberly counted:
The flat-space prediction is now standard-physics-grade. The Ledger's BMV stance — entanglement, essentially free — is no longer a conjecture priced by dimensional analysis; it is what exact field dynamics says, derived in our own machinery, agreeing with perturbative quantum gravity where both should agree. A positive BMV result still kills classical-channel gravity; it no longer distinguishes the Ledger from QG. Honest theories share territory where the physics is shared.
The distinctive territory is sharper, not gone. The fee lives at horizons — and the universe is generous with horizons: every accelerated lab, every cosmological patch, every black hole. The DSW effect (horizon decoherence of static superpositions) is now the Ledger's core quantitative target rather than a cross-check: derive its rate from the measured TL schedule as the price of records crossing the diamond's edge. That is the program's next gate, replacing the one this folio closed.
The bookkeeping closes. Records radiated through a horizon are withdrawals that can never be reversed — they are deposits into the locked reserve. The fee (Postulate 4), the reserve (Folio VI), and the arrow of time are now one mechanism: irreversibility = what the horizon keeps.
- Scope of the zero: exact for linear (Gaussian-branch) coupling, compact boson, boxes up to 20³, ramps Tr ≤ 80. A fee smaller than ~10⁻⁶ would have registered; none did. Nonlinear couplings unprobed.
- The horizon pricing is not yet derived. The amended postulate predicts the DSW rate should follow from TL = (2/π)ℏc/kBL applied to records crossing the diamond boundary. Until that calculation exists and matches DSW's, the amendment is an interpretation, stamped accordingly.
- The 1D infrared catastrophe stands (D ∝ ε²t²/mN, entanglement killed): in vacua where soft radiation is unavoidable even for slow sources, the fee is real and ruinous. One spatial dimension is, in this sense, all horizon.
- What this folio establishes: the flat-space adiabatic fee is zero, measured exactly; the fee is radiation; Postulate 4 is amended rather than defended. The previous archive retracted an ontology (its 040); this house has now retracted a price. The discipline transfers.
